Summer Holiday Program

Village Therapy - School Holiday Program

Would your child benefit from learning to better interact with others?

Our school holiday programs are a great way to have fun and make friends, while building important skills!

We’re planning some great things for our Summer Holiday Program, running over three weeks in January. All of these programs will be run face-to-face in our clinic, so your children gets the full benefit of working with others.

From a School Readiness Program, to basic cooking, to learning to ride a bike, as well as movement and sport, Minecraft and Music Therapy groups, these group programs will offer so many ways to engage with your child and help them achieve their therapy goals.

Additionally, we will run our General School Holiday Program groups as we have done throughout 2021 and that have received so much positive feedback.

Please respond by Wednesday the 1st of December to register your interest!

We know that 2021 has been very disruptive for many kids, and that for those who are starting school in 2022, parents are sometimes unsure if their child is ready. The purpose of this program is to get your child ready for school in 2022, so that they can have the best start to their schooling life.

Some activities directly target specific goals include following directions as a group, asking questions in relation to a story and gross motor skills. We also indirectly target the goals of separating from parents, requesting the toilet, unpacking belongings and finishing tasks.

The format for this is 3 x 90 minute sessions, with one session each day. Groups will be up to six participants, hosted by one clinician for every 3 children.

The cost of this program is $495 which includes individualised feedback on completion of the program.

General School Holiday Program

General School Holiday Program

We've successfully run this program in the 2021 school holidays. It focusses on playing together, sharing and taking turns, teamwork and being a good sport, fine and gross motor skills, and, making friends & having fun! This has been very well received and we will offer this again in January 2022.

Activities will include games, craft, stories and snack time, providing lots of opportunities to practice social, language and occupational skills with support and strategies provided by our therapists in an environment that is similar to your child’s everyday life. And because the focus is FUN, your child will love coming!

The format for this is 3 x 90 minute sessions, with one session each day. We plan to run groups of up to six participants, hosted by two clinicians.

The cost of this program is $495 which includes individualised feedback on completion of the program.

Music Therapy Groups

Music Therapy Groups

Music Therapy is such a powerful therapy; it can help with emotional regulation, turn-taking, verbal output, confidence in social settings, participation with others - and it's a lot of fun too!

The format for these groups will depend on the age group and therapeutic goals of the children involved. However, each will generally combine action songs, working with others and gross motor skills. Each group will work together on a project to complete over the sessions.

Each program will consist of 3 x 60 minute sessions, and will be run by a registered music therapist assisted by other clinicians, depending on numbers.

The cost of this program is $375.

Bike riding can  sometimes be a struggle to learn and some children need a little more support than others. It is also such a great skill to have; it's fun, kids can do it on their own and with their family and friends, and it helps build independence in later years. If your child is struggling, we have a program designed to help turn bike riding into a successful and fun activity.

The format for this is 3 x 90 minute sessions, with one session each day. The group will be a mixture of fun indoor and outdoor activities with members of our clinical team guiding your child.

Each child will need to bring a bike in good working order (with training wheels, if required) and a helmet, and a parent / guardian will be required to attend and support their child to participate in the program.

The cost of this program is $495.

The kitchen is such a central part of every home, and it's also a great place for your child to get the experience of participating, helping to make things, and having lots of fun! We'll be cooking with graded exposure to foods for those kids with sensory needs.

The group would prepare something each day, starting with explaining the recipe, measuring and mixing, cooking, and cleaning up. We focus on working together, and naturally, safety is a key consideration.

The format for this is 3 x 90 minute sessions, with one session each day. The group will be run by the amazing Gemma and another clinician who bring all of their experience as clinicians with a dash of food handling qualifications!

The cost of this program is $495.

Minecraft is a great game for developing thinking skills such as planning, problem-solving and negotiation, all the while having fun with other people online. This school holiday program takes the theme of Minecraft into the realm of face to face. We'll be using the ideas of Minecraft to engage the children in activities that further increase these skills.

The format for this is 3 x 90 minute sessions, with one session each day. It is designed for children Grade 3 and older. Please note this program will not involve any in-game or screen activities.

The cost of this program is $495.

Next steps

Please respond by Wednesday the 1st of December. We will consider all responses and will do our best to offer you a place in our programs. To accept, we’ll ask you to pay a deposit to secure your child’s place. We can’t guarantee that all groups will run – this will depend on the number of participants that register interest. The session times listed for each group are an indication of when groups will run if each session has enough participants. You may be offered an alternate time – but you will know this before paying for the group.

Important information re cancellations:

Groups take a lot of time to plan and organise. We know how valuable they are to families, so we make the commitment to offer groups when we can. However, we can only afford to run them with strict guidelines in place around cancellations and non-attendance. Please read the following information carefully, before paying to register your child. We would love to be able to offer refunds for unexpected illness etc, but to do this results in groups losing money. In order to be able to continue offering groups, we need to apply the following attendance policy.

  • Reimbursements are not available if your child does not attend a session. As social interaction is a focus of the program, we rely on all children attending each session. Please only sign up if you are available for every session.
  • If your child is sick on the day, you will be provided with information to enable you to complete a range of activities at home, targeting some of the goals of the group. Refunds are not available.
  • If your availability changes after you have committed to the group, please let us know at least one week in advance of the first session. No refunds will be given after this time unless another child can be allocated to the space. If another child can fill the space, your fee will be refunded, minus a $40 administration fee.
  • Sometimes children are not able to participate appropriately in the group, despite their best efforts. Should this happen, we may be better able to support your family by discontinuing your child’s participation in the group program and spending some time working with you to give you some suggestions on how to target particular areas at home.
